Verizon Wireless has entered into a $3.6 billion deal with three cable giants to purchase more wireless spectrum, reported the LA Times. The country’s largest wireless carrier struck the deal on Friday with SpectrumCo, a joint venture of Comcast Corp., Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks.

“This sale of spectrum is an important step toward ensuring that the needs and desires of consumers for additional mobile services will not be thwarted by the current spectrum shortage,” the companies said in a statement.

The spectrum merge is expected to reach 259 million people. as a part of the deal, the companies have agreed to sell one another’s products, an interesting development as Verizon competes to these companies in the cable market. This new deal has brought these unlikely allies together.

With the increasing popularity of 4G wireless services, carriers are jostling to expand their own networks faster than the competition. AT&T, the 2nd largest network in the country, attempted to pick up T Mobile in an effort to catch up with the aggressive Verizon. AT&T, however, has become tangled up in anti-trust litigation and as of yet have not realized this goal. Verizon has wisely chosen to take advantage of the situation by picking up spectrum from the cable companies.

Comcast Corp. is making $2.3 billion on the sale, Time Warner is picking up $1.1 billion, and Bright House is taking home $189 million. Approval from government regulators is pending, but the deal is expected to go through.

5G still seems to be on the drawing board, but the race is already on to develop and market this future technology.

Traditionally, a new generation, or “G” of mobile technology, has come along about every ten years; 1G mobile technology emerged in 1981, 2G in 1992, 3G in 2001, and over the past few years we have seen 4G establish itself.

5G still seems to be on the drawing board, but the race is already on to develop and market this future technology. South Korea announced in 2008 that it planned to spend $58,000,000 US dollars on the development of 4G and 5G technology, with the hope of having the highest mobile phone market share by 2012.

However, no official 5G development programme from the Koreans or anyone else has been launched. 5G remains a term which is not officially used for any current technology, and the term is not present in any of the documentation from standardization companies such as WiMax. New releases beyond the capabilities of 4G are under assessment from standardization bodies, and although they are new technologies, are still under the umbrella of 4G.

If the traditional time periods between generations continue, it can be assumed that 5G communication will be accesbile around the year 2020. Previous generations have developed the peak bitrates of their networks, so if 5G follows suit, one can assume that the peak bitrate of the 5G networks will be substantially increased. Differences in usability in comparison to previous generations are assumed to include lower battery consumption, better coverage, higher bit rates and cheaper or no traffic fees as a result of low infrastructure deployment costs. These however are all assumptions, and are the subject of talks between developers. We’ll have to wait and see what the future brings.

For those struggling to wait for the future generations,Quantum wireless has the best available Internet routers, offering the most efficient 3G and 4G routers on the market today.

Rumours are also circulating Internet forums of a 5G iTouch or iPhone, which is said to include improved GPS, camera and internet browsing.

US retailer Best Buy even seem to be looking as far ahead as 6. Their new TV ad, featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Justin Bieber, includes the squeaky voiced Canadian brandishing a phone with 6G written on its screen.

With the ever-increasing demand for the newest handsets, faster mobile broadband and increased efficiency of apps such as GPS, we may see the future generations of 5G and 6G progress faster than once every ten years.

Tablets are no doubt becoming one of those popular tech accessories. Nokia and Linux were among the first two companies to enter the tablet market space but were soon pushed out of the way by Google, Samsung, and omnipresent Apple.

The tech savvy of our day really make a large impact upon the popularity of most technologies and devices. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with the latest trends pertaining to cool gadgets on the market but sooner or later you realize that the same something is in everybody’s pocket or hand as they walk down the street. Before you know it, you’ve got one too.

Tablets are no doubt becoming one of those popular tech accessories. Nokia and Linux were among the first two companies to enter the tablet market space but were soon pushed out of the way by Google, Samsung, and omnipresent Apple. Today, the Samsung Galaxy, Apple iPad and, iPad 2 have taken over the tablet market providing users with technology that has become and is still becoming the standard worldwide.

The sleek machines offer touch screen, rapid internet connectivity, and function almost anywhere you are, without the irritating presence of wires or anything other accessories. Large and crisp display screen are awfully popular with those who love to watch music videos, movies, or browse YouTube on the go or cozily in your bed. With the limitless amount of apps and add-ons available for free and purchase on tablets, there is almost nothing you can’t do.

Tablets almost weightlessly replace the heavy laptops some of used are used to lugging around on a daily basis and they provide for us all the things we need. They aren’t just play things after all and do function the way full size personal computers do. Work and play is possible at the same time with access to Windows applications and operating systems that help you utilize the full functionality of your tablet.

While some may not be comfortable with ditching MacBooks and PCs, others find tablets faster, more user-friendly, durable, and simply better looking. It’s obvious that some people would much rather leave the house with an iPad tucked under the arm rather than a laptop and for pretty solid reasons. They are changing the way people work, socialize, and manage their lives all in one. It will be interesting to see how exactly their role continues to develop in the technology industry.

The days of getting up just to change the song playing on the stereo have long been over. Wireless speakers have been around for some time now but their utility is sometimes questioned.

The days of getting up just to change the song playing on the stereo have long been over. You want to lie down in your apartment or prepare dinner in the kitchen while jamming to your favorite tunes, but no way are you going to run back and forth to hear the right ones.

Wireless speakers have been around for some time now but their utility is sometimes questioned. First, one should know that these speakers transmit audio signals over radio frequency (RF) waves rather than over audio cables. They are made up of two units: a loudspeaker with an RF receiver, and an RF transmitter unit. While these signals can negotiate walls and ceilings, the ones coming from the speakers can interfere with other wireless devices nearby. These include cordless phones and baby monitors.

Manufactures however have solved the nagging issue by allowing users to control the transmission frequencies usually with the use of a knob or dial. Apart from this, users can benefit in many other ways. Some speakers, designed for outdoor use, traverse the possibility of bad weather since they are built to be “weatherproof”.

Devices today that come from manufacturers such as Apple and Logitech have catered especially to those who own laptops, iPhones, and iPads. Whereas docking systems are usually popular for use in places such as dorm rooms, wireless speakers are popular for larger homes and apartments. Speakers can stream music straight from iPhones and laptops wirelessly and can be controlled from great distances.

While some argue about the sound quality offered by wireless speakers, there is no doubt that having the ability to control your music from a convenient distance relieves music lovers from several negligible yet irritating issues at once. They may not be for everyone but wireless speakers are paving the way for greater control in the hands of users.
